Mandarin Maths

Fabulous Fractions!

Today Room 5 used mandarins to explore the terms and symbols - whole, halves and quarters.

We each peeled a mandarin and then discussed what it meant to divide our mandarins in half.

We then divided our mandarins into segments and counted the pieces. We shared who had an EVEN number of segments and who had an ODD number of segments.

After dividing our mandarins into halves we discussed quarters. We divided our tissues into 4 quarters and shared our mandarin segments evenly into the 4 quarters. Some of us had extra segments left over!

We LOVED our mandarin maths. We really enjoyed eating the mandarins after we had finished our maths. Thank you to everyone who brought mandarins to share today!

Our New Class Mascot!

We have a new addition to our class! Mrs Elliott was given a Hatchimal for her Mother's Day present to share with Room 5. We looked after our egg and gave it lots of cuddles. Last night it hatched! Our new baby Draggle needs a name! Can you think of some names we can call him?

Keeping Ourselves Safe!

Over the last two weeks Room 5 has been taking part in our Inquiry topic - Keeping Ourselves Safe. We were lucky to be joined by Constable Emma who talked to us about the importance of knowing our address and phone number incase we got lost. We also discussed different kinds of touch and the people in our lives who we can trust if we are feeling frightened, sad or confused. We found that in Room 5 a lot of students do not know their address or  phone number but we are confident that we could stay calm and find an adult we trust to help us if we were lost. We talked about good secrets and bad secrets and the differences between the two. We watched a video clip about getting lost at the mall.

Te Puna Quarry Park Trip

On Tuesday the 7th of March the Junior School visited the 

Te Puna Quarry Park.

Our focus is: The Bush.

Have a look at the photos and tell us what kinds of things we found in the bush! Some things were surprising. Some things were scary! Some things were noisy.
